Our History
Established in 1913 by the pioneering Gnagy family, Oakwood Park is a historic lakeside community steeped in tradition and natural beauty. Located on the eastern shores of Hamilton Lake, the area has long been cherished for its breathtaking sunsets, gently sloping wooded hills, and a pristine, sandy lake bottom that has welcomed generations of swimmers and boaters. As part of the incorporated town of Hamilton, Oakwood Park continues to thrive, supported by a growing number of local establishments—including marinas, a grocery store, and beloved restaurants—that serve both long-time residents and newcomers drawn to the enduring charm of lakefront living.

Sheryl Myers and her late husband Steve added a second Oakwood cottage in 2009, continuing a long family tradition. Their original white cottage was purchased by Steve’s grandparents, Stephen and Ida Panasuk, in the 1940s and shared for many years by their four children—Margaret, Anna, Bob, and Helen. In the early 1980s, Helen bought out her siblings and later passed the cottage on to Steve & Sheryl. Today, five generations of the family have enjoyed time in Oakwood Park.
